Synopsis: Elwood Curtis, a black boy in 1960s Tallahassee, is unfairly sentenced to a juvenile reformatory called Nickel Academy and finds himself trapped in a chamber of horrors. As life at the Academy takes a perilous turn, the conflict between Elwood's ideals and Turner's skepticism leads to a decision with repercussions that will echo throughout the decades.
