In Celebration of Arbor Day: Compost 101

Join environmental educator Gil Lopez for an introduction to composting. Learn about large and small-scale composting programs, including a primer on ways to compost at home with worms, or in a community space (like a coop courtyard or community garden) with your neighbors. The presentation will also cover DSNY’s brown and smart bin programs which collect your yard and kitchen wastes to be processed at industrial facilities. Please bring any questions you may have about food waste and composting at home or participating in NYC’s free organics collection services. You will also receive a small bag of finished compost to take home to your garden or houseplants. This program is made possible by the Queens Public Library Foundation and our individual donors.
